THE DESIGN BRIEF
The brief was to transform a compact bedroom into a calm and multifunctional space for a ten-year-old girl. The room needed to support study, creativity, storage and rest, while remaining flexible enough to grow with her over time. With a defined budget of €5,000, every element needed to combine visual simplicity, practicality and long-term use.
THE DESIGN RESPONSE
A warm neutral palette, natural oak finishes and soft textiles create a peaceful atmosphere without making the room feel too young or themed. Customised IKEA systems were used to achieve a more integrated and considered result within the available budget. The desk, seating, storage and wall panelling were selected as the key investment pieces, giving the room structure, warmth and a timeless character.
THE LIVING EXPERIENCE
The layout brings together an integrated study area, accessible everyday storage and quieter zones for reading and rest. The desk makes use of the natural light, while concealed and open storage keep books, clothes and creative materials organised without overwhelming the room. The resulting space feels calm, practical and personal, with enough flexibility to adapt as its young owner grows.
